IIT DELHI PLACEMENTS 2018:
☛ Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi just concluded its first phase of campus placements. At the end of Phase I, as many as 900 job offers were made, including PPOs. Not only did the campus see a massive increase of about 20 percent in the companies visiting the campus, 750 students have already been offered. This number is an increase of 22% from the last year’s figures. Phase II of campus placements for IIT Delhi would begin from January when another 150 companies are expected to visit.
☛ As a policy decision, the IITs have decided not to disclose the package details of the highest offers made at the campus. The decision was taken by the IITs in-order to dissuade ‘undue publicity’. In an official statement, IIT Delhi notes that the decision was taken as publicity of packages have an ‘effect of devaluing national placements over international placements as well as core jobs over finance and consulting jobs.’
☛ However, sharing the overall figures, there is a sharp increase in core placements as well as international placements. As many as 43 students were offered international opportunities abroad from the European region, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, US etc. Out of these, 33 students have accepted the offers.
☛ The official report confirms that there has been an increase in students’ picking up core engineering profiles for electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, etc. Some of the biggest placements continues to be in Information Technology domain with Artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, stochastic modelling and predictive analysis being the key areas.
☛ Highlighting this trend, Prof. S. Dharmaraja, Head T&P, said, “As we expected, offers from core companies increased. Core companies including those registering under the domain of Information Technology and Others yielded over 70% offers.”
☛ Ms. Anishya Madan, Industry Liaison Officer, (T&P), notes, “The efforts of the entire placement team of staff and volunteers coupled with the positive reaction from industry this year has translated into these hiring numbers. We hope this trend continues till the end of the season.”
