    UP POLICE CONSTABLE EXAM 2018 NOT TO BE CANCELLED, ALLAHABAD HC REJECTS PETITION:

    Allahabad: Allahabad High Court has rejected the petition filed to cancel the UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2018. As per the petition filed in the court of Sangeeta Chandra. The petition was filed by Dheerendra Kumar and 25 others, requesting for the entire examination to be cancelled and be conducted again. UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2018 was conducted on June 18 and 19. Soon, however, reports of error in distribution of papers came to light, following which UPPRPB cancelled the second slot exams conducted on both the days.

    ☛ The petition requested that the entire examination be cancelled. However, the court has rejected, noting that the affected candidates have been asked to appear for the re-examination. Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, UPPRPB would be conducting the re-examination for the affected candidates today.

    ☛ As many as 41, 520 constables would be recruited by means of the UP Police Recruitment 2018. As per the reports, as many as 19 lakh candidates had appeared for the examination. The examination was conducted in two slots on June 18 and 19. Following the discovery of the error in the question paper distribution (same set was distributed in both the slots), the examination for all the candidates who appeared in the second (afternoon shift) were cancelled.

    ☛ As many as 9 lakh candidates were affected by the decision to cancel the examination. UPPRPB is now conducting the re-examination for the candidates on October 25 and October 26. The examination would be conducted in one shift on October 25 and two shifts on October 26.

    QS RANKINGS 2019 FOR ASIAN UNIVERSITIES RELEASED:

    ☛ QS Asian University Rankings 2019 has been released and the top university in the region is National University of Singapore, NUS. Stepping up one spot from its second rank in 2018, NUS has beated Nanyang Technological University, NTU. NTU has slipped to number three this year and University of Hong Kong has taken the second place. As for the top Indian Universities in Asia, IIT Bombay comes in at number 33.

    ☛ QS had released the Top Indian University Rankings 2019 last week. IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras and IISc Bangalore had taken the top slot. However, in comparison to the universities in the region, the top Indian Universities failed to make a mark in the top 30. IIT Bombay was ranked Number 33 while IIT Delhi was at Rank 40.     ☛ A total of 8 Indian Universities managed to find a spot in the Top 100 Universities in the region. However, if the performance was to be compared to the neighbouring China, there is a long gap. For instances, as many as 7 universities of China ranked in the Top 30 – a place where no Indian University managed to find a spot. China has a total of 23 Universities in the Top 100 Universities in Asia list.

    ☛ However, the top place went to Singapore and Hong Kong Universities that continued to rule the rankings. 14 Japanese Universities found spot in the Top 100. Comparing it to Pakistan, however, the varsities performed much better. National University of Sciences and Technology, NUST, Islamabad was the Top University of Pakistan and ranked at 87. Pakistant managed to get only 2 universities in the Top 100 list.

    INTERNATIONAL AWARDS FOR BANKA EDUCATION PROJECT:

    LICHFL RECRUITMENT 2018:

    ☛ Unnayan Banka, an online and offline education project started in Banka, one of the least developed districts of Bihar, has won the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management’s international innovation award for 2018. The project trumped the other finalists from Singapore and Mauritius to win the award in the Innovation Incubation category.

    ☛ The award was received by Banka District Magistrate Kundan Kumar on Wednesday at a function in Georgetown, Guyana.

    ☛ Unnayan Banka started was initially started in five schools in the district and has now been implemented in all its 143 schools. It involves teaching Class IX and Class X students through interactive concept videos, providing realtime doubt-clearing, examination and digital report cards. This was done through an application called Eckovation, which has been co-founded by IITian Ritesh Singh.

    ☛ The Banka experiment is being replicated in Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. It is soon going to implemented in Classes IX-XII in about 5,000 schools across the country under the Central government’s flagship scheme Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA).

    ☛ DM Kundan Kumar told The Indian Express, “Defeating Singapore in technology was tough. It is a special feeling when a programme that started in a small place with limited resources gets international recognition.”

    ☛ Eckovation co-founder Singh said their efforts were lauded for “innovation that represents early thinking and promotes unproven innovative ideas”.

    ☛ “It was a great feeling to see Banka DM give a presentation before top officials of other countries”.Rakhi Kumari, a teacher at a Banka school, said, “This recognition has given us more reasons to work harder.”

    IIT MADRAS WRITES TO HRD, SHARES DISAPPOINTMENT OVER INSTITUTE OF EMINENCE TAG DESPITE UGC RECOMMENDATION:

    IIT MADRAS:

    Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras has written to the Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar. In the letter, the institute, one of the top engineering institutes of the country has expressed its disappointment in being passed over and not getting the Institute of Eminence tag – despite a recommendation from the Universities Grants Commission, UGC.

    ☛ As per the report published in IE, Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IIT Madras, has conveyed the concerns to Javadekar. The move comes more than a month after the announcement of Institute of Eminence tag. MHRD had announced Institute of Eminence tag for IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IISc Bangalore in July based on the recommendations received.

    ☛ The names of 20 institutes out of the total 114 applicants were to be shortlisted by the Empowered Expert Committee, EEC. Of the total, 11 institues including Indian Institute of Science (IISc), IIT-Madras, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, Delhi University, Jadavpur University and Anna University were recommended under the public category. Apart from these, BITS-Pilani, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Jio Institute were suggested under the private category.

    ☛ Of these, IISc, IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi were granted the Institute of Eminence tag. In the report published, as per the UGC minutes of the meeting, these three were reportedly chose on the basis of the institute’s QS World University Rankings 2018.

    ☛ Sharing his displeasure over the decision, Goenka has questioned the merit of selecting and awarding the IoE tag based on the ranking of a commercial agency. It was also pointed out that IIT Madras has effectively ranked at the top slot in the NIRF Rankings 2015, 16 and 17.

    Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Main 2019 January examination registrations have closed on the official portal jeemain.nic.in. Students who have registered for examination would now be required to download the admit cards for JEE Main 2019 examination. The admit cards would be released in December 2018. National Testing Agency has released an important notice regarding the uploaded photographs on the official website.

    ☛ Students and parents to kindly note that students were, as per the information bulletin, required to upload the photographs which had the name and date printed on it. It was noticed by NTA that many students have not complied with the requirement. Also, considering the representations received, NTA has released a notice for all such candidates.

    ☛ As per the notice on jeemain.nic.in, the photographs uploaded by the candidates without the Name and Date are accepted. Accordingly, students need not worry about the same. There is no need to send any representations either. The forms are accepted and students would be allowed to appear for the examination.

    ☛ JEE Main 2019 exam dates, shift and city details have also been released on the official website jeemain.nic.in. Students who have not yet checked the same are advised to check the same.     Rajasthan Public Service Commission, RPSC has declared the results for the RPSC RAS Prelims 2018 examination conducted on August 5, 2018. The results were declared yesterday, October 23, 2018. As many as 15,044 candidates from Non TSP Area and 571 from TSP area have qualified for the RPSC RAS 2018 mains. The results as well as the cut off marks are now available on rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in.

    Hyderabad: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said syllabi for school children in the country should be halved and students should learn "50 per cent from their classrooms and the rest from playgrounds." He was interacting with students of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

    ☛ The Vice President said the concept of examinations should be based on measuring the child's capacity simply to question the things around him or her. Naidu urged the young students to never let their marks define or restrict them in any way. "You are much more than the numbers on your report card," he told the students.

    ☛ Along with physical fitness, schools should also encourage other extracurricular activities, an official release quoted the Vice President as saying. "The syllabi for school children in the country should be halved and students should learn 50 per cent from their classrooms and the rest from playgrounds," he said.

    ☛ The Vice President said Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has played a pivotal role in the education scenario of the country since its inception in 1938. Mohammad Mahmood Ali, caretakerDeputy Chief Minister of Telangana and other dignitaries were present on the occasion, the release said.

    ☛ If any CBSE school is found to assign home work to students up to class 2 or suggest extra/alternative text books other than what is prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for up to class 5 children, the school shall be disaffiliated, confirms Centre to the Madras High Court.

    ☛ As a response to PIL that advocate M Purushothaman had filed, the union human resources development ministry had filed an affidavit that directs all the CBSE schools to abide by NCERT syllabus. It has clearly stated that no home work should be assigned for students under class 2. The Centre has insisted all the state government and Union Territories on disaffiliating all the CBSE schools that violate these instructions. On 5th October, an official communication is being sent across to all the government schools, it further adds.

    ☛ As the Justice N Kirubakaran recorded this submission, he had also posted request for furtherance of hearing to October 24. According to the communication, the Children School Bag Policy has to be formulated that insists on reducing the total weight in the bags according to the guidelines proposed by governments of Telangana and Maharashtra.

    ☛ As a move to thoroughly inspect the schools and surveille the likely usage of books that are not prescribed, special squads are set up.

    ☛ Apart from this, under the department head, Ranjana Arora, a national level committee consisting of 6 members was formed. This shall frame the policy for school bags.

    ☛ The Joint Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Samiti, S. Vijaya Kumar, and the joint commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, A.N. Ramachandra, and the director of Chief Vigilance officer of CBSE and 2 other representatives of Telangana’s and Maharashtra’s, Joseph Emmanuel are the members included in the committee.

    ☛ On 29th of July, across the state and union territories, the high court had ordered the Union HRD ministry to stop giving home works to children of class 1 and the students who study in any kind of affiliated schools, regardless of the board of education.

    ☛ Furthermore, there will not be any additional subjects for class 1 and 2 other than math and language. For class 3 and 5, it shall only be language, EVS and math, abiding by the NCERT syllabus. So, according to the order issued, the centre has requested all the states and union territories.

    NEET 2019 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA UNDER NTA:

    ☛ NEET 2019: National Testing Agency, NTA would soon be releasing the online application forms for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET 2019. As per the official schedule, NEET 2019 registration would begin on nta.ac.in from November 1, 2018. Students interested in applying for undergraduate medical and dental courses are required to qualify the NEET 2019. Also, as per the last order, students planning to do medicine from abroad are also required to qualify NEET examinations. Check the eligibility criteria for NEET under NTA.

    ☛ Please note that there is no expected change in the eligibility criteria for NEET under NTA. For most part, NEET 2019 would be similar to NEET 2018 which was conducted by CBSE. The examination would be conducted in pen and paper format on one day across the country. Important Dates for NEET 2019 are summarised below for quick reference.

    FOUR INDIAN INSTITUTES OF SKILLS:

    ☛ In an endeavour to enhance the skills of the you and help in employability and self-sufficiency, four Indian Institute of Skills would be established in the country in the coming years. As per the information available at present, the institutes would be established under the Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry. These would be established under the PPP model. PM Narendra Modi had in December 2017 laid the foundation stone of the first Indian Institute of Skill, IIS in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

    ☛ IIS is being established to provide skills in various vocational courses for the youth of the country. The idea was conceptualized by PM Modi and is being seen as the solution to the ever widening employment gap. The aim and focus of the institute is to arm the youth of the country with skills that can help them get meaningful employment.

    ☛ Based and inspired by Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education, the model focussed on providing vocational training which would help the youth find employment and even become self sufficient. As many as 6 institutes were planned under the project. The institutes would be set up under the Union Skill Development Ministry. More inputs are awaited.

    Chennai: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE 2019 window for correcting the defects in the online applications would close tomorrow, October 25, 2018. Candidates who have applied for the examination to be conducted next year are advised to check their applications. Please note, applications with the defects would be rejected after tomorrow. The steps to do the same are provided below along with the direct link.

    ☛ Indian Institute of Madras, IIT-M would be conducting the GATE 2019 examination on February 2, 3, 9 and 10 across centres. The window to change paper was closed on October 23, 2018. Also, the correction window for making changes concerning Gender, Category, Exam City would be opened later.

    ☛ At present, all the candidates who have applied for GATE 2019 are required to go through their GATE 2019 applications. In case of any defects or errors, the candidates would be able to view them on the application forms. These defects have to be accordingly rectified.     CONCESSION ON EXAMINATION MARKS:

    CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has extended the concession given to the 10th Standard on their public examination marks. From the academic year 2017-18, the system of public examination was introduced for 10th Standard.

    ☛ As the students were accustomed to the old examination system as conducted by the respective schools, they were stunned on the public examination announcement and were not completely ready. So, in order to maintain the current success record of the students not to be disturbed, CBSE ordered some concession on the marks for the 10th Standard Public Examinations.

    ☛ According to this concession, the condition that the 10thStandard students needed a minimum score of 33% in each subject and again, 33% in the internal assessment to pass was relaxed for the academic year 2017-18 alone.

    ☛ The revised concession was that the 10th standard students needed 33% combining both the examinations and the internal assessment for the year 2017-18 only and it was clearly mentioned that this concession would be just for the 1 year alone. However, there were demands from several quarters that this concession must be extended for this year as well.

    ☛ Subsequently, CBSE has accepted this demand and has announced that the above concession as 33% as a minimum mark combining the examinations and internal assessment will be extended for the current academic year (2018-19) as well.

    ☛ The Examination Control Board official, Sanam Bhardwaj, has sent a circular regarding this to all the regional CBSE offices.

    SSC STENOGRAPHER EXAM NOTIFICATION 2018:

    SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Exam 2018 notification has been released by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on officially on 22 October 2018 through its official website. The SSC had issued the short notice in Employment Newspaper to release the official notification, which was delayed as per the SSC exam calendar issued earlier.

    ☛ SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Recruitment 2018 candidate will be selected through the open competitive Computer Based Examination for recruitment of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India.

    ☛ As per the official notice, the official notification for Stenographer Grade C and D Exam 2018 will be available on 22 October 2018 to 19 November 2018. Interested candidates have to go through written test (CBT) and skill test to get this job.

    ☛ Earlier, SSC Stenographer 2018 Notification for Grade C & D Posts was delayed from the scheduled date of announcement on 07 July 2018. While there is no updated available at the Commission's website ssc.nic.in, lacs of candidates are searching for the official notificiation of SSC Stenographer 2018 exam as per the official SSC Exam Calender 2018.

    Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is all set to invite applications for Steno Grade C & D post. The eligible candidates can apply to the post through the prescribed format on or before 22 October 2018. Earlier, the official notification was expected to be released on 07 July 2018. Candidates who want to appear for this examination can check the official site.

    ☛ Earlier, the examination for SSC Steno Grade C & D 2018 was scheduled from from 04 to 08 of September 2018, but as per new notification, the exam dates are yet to be notified. In a notice released by the Commission, the dates of examination are mentioned along with tentative date of admit card and date for skill test. The examination will be conducted for 2 hours and will consists of 200 marks. The subjects included in the examination are General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension.

    ☛ Candidates who have cleared Class 12 and fall under the age group of 18-27 Years can apply for the same. The selection process of SSC Steno Grade C & D includes computer based examination, skill test followed by document verification.
