NEET 2019:NTA TO CONDUCT EXAM IN FEBRUARY AND MAY, INTRODUCE THE CHANGES:
NEET 2019:NTA:
☛ From 2019, instead of CBSE,NEET UG would be conducted by
newly formed NTA or National Testing Agency.
☛ National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET for undergraduate
medical and dental admissions would be conducted by National Testing
Agency –NTA instead of CBSE from 2019. In an announcement, the
MHRD had officially launched the NTA and confirmed that NTA would be
conducting NEET 2019 twice a year, along with other entrance
examinations like UGC NET, JEE Mains, CMAT and GPAT. NTA NEET 2019 would
be conducted in February and May.
NTA-NEET IMPORTANT CHANGES:
☛ The biggest change that has been introduced for NEET is that the
examination would be conducted twice every year instead of just
once. Also, the examination would be conducted in 8 different
sessions and the candidates would have an option of choosing on which
date to appear for the examination.
☛ Another big change is that the examination would be strictly
online. NTA is doing away with pen and paper based tests and would
introduce online examinations.
☛ As per the report, NTA would be using artificial intelligence
and introducing computer adaptive testing. In this process (used for
international examinations like GMAT), the level of difficulty keeps
increasing.
☛ In a first, to improve the quality of testing, NTA would employ
psychometric analysts and train the item writers. Also, the AI
techniques would be introduced to ensure error free question papers and
answer keys.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
☛ According to the tentative schedule, JEE (Main) will be held in
January 2019 and April 2019. On the other hand, NEET (UG) will take
place in February 2019 and May 2019 and UGC-NET will be held in December
2018.
☛ The agency will also conduct the Common Management Admission Test
(CMAT) as well as Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) exams. Also, all
these exams will now take place in computer-based format to ensure leak-
proof exams.
☛ The time table of the exams to be conducted by NTA would be
uploaded on the ministry’s website. The IITs would continue to conduct
JEE-Advanced exam, the Minister said.
NO CHANGES IN SYLLABUS,PATTERN,FREE:
☛ “The syllabus, nature of questions, language choice as well as
the exam fee will not change, however, the method of exam is now going to
be only computer-based”, said Javadekar.
☛ The official statement said that the tests would be conducted in
multiple sittings and a candidate will have an option of dates to choose
from. Scores of different candidates in multiple sittings will also be
equated using standardisation techniques.
PRACTICE CENTRES:
☛ To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to practice before the
exam, the testing agency will establish a network of test practice
centres for the students of the rural areas, the statement
added.
☛ Schools/engineering colleges with computer centres would be
identified and kept open on Saturday/Sunday, starting from third week of
August. Any student can use the facility free of charge.
☛ The Union Cabinet in November 2017 approved NTA as an autonomous
and self-sustained testing organisation to conduct the entrance
examinations for higher educational institutions.
